    Good day all

My koi fish seems to be swollen around the tummy area, is not active as it used to be, and distances itself from the other koi's.

She also at the moment is sitting under the waterfall, against the wall.

I cannot upload the pictures, due to the site saying the file is too big, over 200k.

Please advise, I hope she's not sick...

It could be some internal infection. Normally if a female is ready to spawn, it would release a pheromone which drives the males crazy and chase after it. You can try to remove it from your main pond and quarantine it.

Where are you from bro? If you are local, you may try S1. Else look through the list below for symptoms that your koi is showing and treat with the recommended med.

    Hi Bro,

Possible of internal infection which blocks the koi from releasing the egg. This kind of infection need to be treated in the beginning.

Sorry I do not know the medicine names like sifu's. Here in Malaysia we have some local made medicine such as S1, Kenkona and Mr Koi medicine which can do the trick. There's also Balgon Anti Ulser in the market to treat internal infection. But as I said earlier, it has too be treated in the beginning otherwise it won't work.

    Gents

How many 25cm fish can I keep in a 5000l pond?

Approximate dimensions are 5x2x0.5m deep. What Is the rule of thumb?

Normally its 1 koi to 1000l but most of the time we overstock :)

Gee, if we followed that rule we would need a swimming pool for a pond lol. I am clearly overstocked as we'll.... :)

Haha again that rule just serves as a guideline considering the fact that some of the Japanese kois can grow to sizes in excess of 80cm. The pond's filtration system and turnover rate are some other factors to consider. There are koi kichis out there who follows the 1 koi to 3000l rule.
